Score 92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2007

Good full red. Raspberry, cherry, coffee, game and smoky oak on the flamboyantly expressive nose. Silky and sappy in the mouth, with lovely aromatic precision to the flavors of raspberry and game. This boasts excellent volume for the vintage, but with perfectly integrated acids leavening the impression of volume and giving grip and shape to the finish. Sweeter than usual for this cuvee at this stage of its development, and perhaps atypically suave. Serafin notes that it was the first 2004 to finish its malolactic fermentation, which he says may partly explain its aromatic character and its length.

Good full red. Liqueur-like red cherry on the nose. Fat, layered and sweet, with sappy cherry flavor enlivened by harmonious ripe acidity. Densely packed. Best today on the back end, which features penetrating fruit and impressive thrust. A rather powerful style of 2004, like the Millandes.
