Full bore and with serious fruit, the 2008 Two Hands Shiraz Gnarly Dudes is 100% Shiraz that spent 12 months in mainly older oak barrels. It’s packed to the gills with decadent, candied raspberry and plum fruits, spice, chocolate and red licorice. These aromas and flavors carry over to the palate and the wine is full bodied with a full, mouth coating texture, nice brightness and lift, sweet fruit and a seamless character. Enjoy this hedonistic wine over the next 3 to 5 years.

The 2008 Shiraz Gnarly Dudes is purple-colored with an expressive perfume of spice box, incense, smoked meat, and blueberry. Sweet on the palate with a bit of structure and plenty of ripe fruit, this medium-long effort can be enjoyed over the next 6 years. Michael Twelftree’s Two Hands negociant label is solid but not quite up to the standards established by the past several years because of the challenging 2007 and 2008 vintages in South Australia. The wines are discussed in the order in which they were presented. The Garden Series is designed to highlight Shiraz from a diversity of appellations (or GIs as they are known in Australia). Glass-staining ruby. Crushed blackberry, blueberry, spicecake and licorice on the slightly medicinal nose. Dense, juicy and sweet, with impressively fresh black raspberry and cherry-cola flavor. Finishes very long, with silky tannins and impressive mineral snap.

On the tart side, with bright berry and pomegranate flavors that zing across fine tannins and linger on the lively finish, hinting at tea at the end. Drink now through 2017. 11,500 cases made. WineSpectator.com
