Score 94/100 · Drink 2001-2016, Robert Parker, Oct 2001

The 1998's saturated dense plum/garnet color is accompanied by a stunningly ostentatious, brilliantly aromatic nose of smoky tobacco, cedar wood, plums, cherry liqueur, coffee, and dried herbs. A rich, full-bodied, and opulent wine, it possesses fabulous spice and fruit, as well as a fresh, high-toned character. Powerful, full, and beautifully delineated, it can be consumed over the next 10-15 years. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. Full red-ruby. Blackberry, cassis, black cherry, licorice and spicy oak on the nose. Very concentrated and densely packed, but rather closed in on itself today. Chewy, tight and seriously structured. Finishes with huge, palate-clenching tannins that will require long-term cellaring. Will this have the fruit to outlast the tannins?
