Smudgy colour. Light but well-balanced nose. Transparent and lightweight but with great, 'only-in-Bordeaux' sort of delicate balance. Dry but not drying tannins. (JR)

A leaner-styled offering than the 2003, the 2002 reveals notes of dried herbs, olives, black cherries, currants, and new oak in the background. Displaying firm tannin, crisp acidity, and an abrupt finish, this moderately-endowed Carbonnieux should be consumed over the next 7-8 years.
Aromatic, but quite light and lacks concentration. Sweet, easy, and accessible. I was even harder on it en primeur giving it just 14 points because of its lack of ripe fruit. (JR)
Mid purplish crimson with a weak rim. Simple red wine on the nose. Attempt at fullness on the front palate but then acidity and hardness make their presence felt. Very dry, unyielding finish. Not nearly enough ripe fruit to make for pleasant drinking. (JR)
About the producer
This estate is one of Bordeaux’s oldest, with vines planted here since at least the 13th century. Over three generations, the Perrin family has completely renovated the estate and raised quality here significantly.
