Score 89/100 · Drink 2018-2024, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2018

Clear, medium, rather advanced amber-red. Aromas of plum, redcurrant, truffle, tobacco and spices show a sexy woodsy decadence but more nuance than the Clos d'Audignac. Similarly more complex and intense in the mouth but less silky, showing the slightly spiky acidity of a wine just past its peak. Displays a strong woodsmoke quality throughout. Patrick Landanger noted that he has always used about 30% new oak for this wine.

Medium red, lighter than the Clos d'Audignac. Smoky, expressive aromas of game, animal fur, roast coffee and earth. Full, sweet and complex; less primary than the d'Audignac but more generous. Finishes with thoroughly ripe tannins and lovely sweet persistence.
