Score 90/100 · Drink 2018-2030, Neal Martin, May 2019

The 1993 Volnay La Bousse d'Or 1er Cru has a fragrant and almost Pomerol-like bouquet with scents of lavender, iris and damp moss that tincture the dark berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and slightly tart, a splash of iodine infusing the black fruit, quite focused but not a deep Volnay. This loses a little precision towards the "furry" finish but otherwise this is drinking nicely. Tasted in Burgundy at a private dinner.
