Production at this seriously run Cotes de Castillon estate is around 1,500 cases. While the 2004 may not equal their brilliant 2001, it is a medium to full-bodied effort displaying plenty of cranberry, black cherry, cedar, licorice, herb, and earth notes. With a beautiful texture, soft tannin, and a silky finish, it can be enjoyed over the next 6-7 years.

Medium ruby. Superripe, slightly porty aromas of black fruits and chocolate. Supple, sweet and fruity, lifted by a floral nuance. Sweet and ripe on the back end.

Mid crimson, not especially deep. Very opulent nose – surely more opulent than any other Castillon 2004? Sweet start on the palate and then quite gentle but could do with a point more acidity to keep the refreshment level up. Just a bit too sumptuous… very light tannins though… quite remarkable for a 2004. (JR)
