Tasting notes
A powerful deep wine, the 1999 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva brings this flight of 1990s Brunellos to a rousing finish. Dark cherry, lavender, licorice, spice and tobacco saturate the palate as this explosive, ample Riserva shows off its considerable pedigree. The muscular style of the year is very much in evidence. Superb.

Sadly, our bottle of the 1999 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is not representative.
The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva belongs to the group of Soldera’s most tannic, structured wines. Explosive, deep and powerful to the core, the 1999 is a tightly-wound ball of energy. I suspect it will still be a special wine in twenty years.
The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva takes things to another level entirely. Make that levels. Huge, backward and massively constituted, the 1999 hits the palate with an almost intoxicating melange of fruit and structure. The flavors are remarkably primary in this super-intense, rich Brunello. Readers lucky enough to own the 1999 Riservas are in for a real treat.
About the producer

Soldera is one of the most highly rated, fiercely collected wines of Italy. The winery is based in the Brunello di Montalcino, however the estate is no longer labelled as a Brunello, following a fall out with the consortium. Made from 100% Sangiovese, the wine is currently bottled as a Toscana IGT.
