The medium-to-dark ruby colored 1997 Romanee-St.-Vivant reveals floral, mocha-covered red and black fruit aromas. This medium-to-full-bodied, thickly-textured wine is dense, feminine, and packed with chocolate as well as red cherries. It is soft, refined, opulent, and possesses a long, somewhat chalky finish (this characteristic prevented a higher score). Drink it over the next 7 years. Louis Latour
The Latour family has been growing vines in Burgundy since at least 1731. Their négociant business – today one of the region’s biggest names – was founded in 1797. Still family-owned today, the company owns 48 hectares of vines, 27 of which are Grand Cru, as well as its own cooperage.
