Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles 2011 offers quite prominent and luscious (for the vintage) fruit on the nose with generous oak, however it is deftly integrated with the succulent, tart red cherry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Again, I find that the oak is a little conspicuous, though underneath there is plenty of candied red fruit interlaced with orange peel and tangerine on the feminine, lithe finish. Give this two or three years in bottle and you will have a pretty Nuits Saint Georges.

Good dark, bright red. Dark cherry, bitter chocolate and crushed stone on the nose. Broad, dry and refined, with a sweetness leavened by pungent red berry flavors complicated by spices, pepper and earth. Can't match the fruit intensity and freshness of the young 2012 version but the rising finish boasts glistening, sweet tannins and a sound structure for a graceful evolution in bottle.

Racy and relatively lean for Chevillon – and none the worse for it! Very racy and satisfying. Notably long. (JR)

Good full, bright red. Very ripe, deep nose offers pomegranate, cranberry and pungent crushed-stone minerality. Very rich and silky; a step up in density from the Pruliers. Thick and chocolatey but with very good lift and verve. Finishes with complex soil tones and serious tannins that will require five or six years of cellaring.
