Score 95/100 · Drink 2013-2022, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Mar 2013

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2008 Amon-Ra opens with profound aromas of black berry compote, baking spices, smoked bacon with a whiff of anise and some fertile loam. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated with very full and rich warm berry flavors lifted by very lively acid. The tannins are medium to firm and velvety on the long finish. Drink it now to 2022+. More ripe and fleshy than the ’09, without the same level of focus and energy, the 2008 Glaetzer Shiraz Amon-Ra Barossa Valley is loaded with thick black fruits, licorice, charred earth, and asphalt like aromas on the nose. These are followed by a medium to full bodied, hedonistically style wine that remains beautifully balanced, shows a rich, lush texture, and a long finish that pumps out loads of chocolatey fruit. Despite being round and ripe, this cuvee, as always, shows plenty of balance and poise. I would drink bottles over the coming decade.
