The 2010 Volnay Caillerets from Marquis d’Angerville follows. A model of precision and elegance, the Caillerets is true to form with its pulsating energy, tension and minerality. Readers who can be patient are in for a real treat, but even today, the 2010 is simply stellar.

Bright, deep red. More discreet and higher-pitched on the nose than the Fremiet, offering black raspberry and mineral aromas enlivened by a minty nuance. Wonderfully silky and creamy but kept fresh and delineated by harmonious acidity. Boasts lovely volume and suavity. Powerful yet smooth on the piquant, building finish.

The 2010 Volnay Les Caillerets is pure silk on the palate. Freshly cut roses, sweet red berries, flowers and mint are woven together beautifully in this sensual, gracious wine. The Caillerets boasts incredible inner perfume and a long, precise finish. The Caillerets has the pedigree of a finely cut diamond.

(recently racked): Good bright, dark red. Urgent, high-pitched aromas of raspberry, crushed cherry, flowers and spicy oak. At once sweet and sappy, with terrific precision and lift to the flavors of red cherry and blood orange. Really lovely fruit here. A wine of great finesse, finishing with noble tannins and echoing, rising fruit. Incidentally, d'Angerville just purchased another 0.2 hectare of Cailleret old vines in late summer.
