Score 94/100 · Drink 2030-2046, Angus Hughson, Vinous, May 2026

The 2006 Shiraz Mount Edelstone is a step up on the 2005, with greater weight and structure. Ample aromas of fruit pastilles, dark licorice and an edge of slate lead to blackberry and black pepper flavours. The 2006 displays notable grip before meaty spice tones build to a strong finish. This is just starting to hit its peak and has a long life ahead.

Score 96/100 · Drink 2013-2021, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Dec 2009

The 2006 Mount Edelstone Shiraz was sourced from a vineyard planted in 1912 with yields of less than 0.5 tons/acre. It was aged for 21 months in 65% new French and American oak. Purple-colored, the nose sports aromas of wood smoke, Asian spices, incense, blueberry, blackberry, and chocolate. Dense and packed, this full-bodied Shiraz has lots of flesh, succulent blue and black fruit flavors, impeccable balance, and a long, pure finish. Drink it from 2013 to 2021. Youthful violet color. Sexy aromas of cherry-vanilla, cola, potpourri and sandalwood, along with a smoky mineral overtone. Deep, seductively sweet dark berry flavors boast liqueur-like richness and are enlivened by juicy acidity. Floral pastille and cracked pepper qualities emerge with air and carry through a long, sappy and impressively focused finish, which features silky tannins and a suave floral character. This gains power in the glass while maintaining admirable balance, focus and mineral-driven clarity.
