The 1990 Shiraz Mount Edelstone is seductive, with lavish blackberry and mulberry aromas layered over crushed spices and dried herbs. Hearty tannins support deepset granite and tobacco flavours with lovely spicy and earthy tones. The finish is long and strong. Despite only 13.5% alcohol, the 1990 is big, hearty and delicious.

Looks fully mature. Well mannered though quite low-key on the nose. Well married, ripe, even a teensy bit past it. Lacks vital spark though perfectly pleasant. Furry tannins on the end which may be beginning to dry out. (JR)
