The 2007 Gruaud Larose has a fresh but straightforward nose with a herbaceous element that becomes more pronounced with time. Mahogany bureau and light earthy scents. It just needs more fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins. It meliorates towards the finish, which feels much fresher than the aromatics. It is well-defined with leather and tobacco notes. A touch of pepperiness is most welcome. It leaves on a high note after a slow beginning. Tasted at the Gruaud Larose vertical at the château in February 2023.

71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot. Brick hue. Light and simple on the nose. Touch of oak but a slightly green aspect to the fruit. Easy on the palate but lacks depth in the middle. Luncheon claret but drink up now. (JL)

Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Gruaud Larose has a soft and slightly muffled bouquet, perhaps just with a touch of brettanomyces that shaves away some of the delineation. After time, there are scents of clove and scorched earth. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin, modest dark berry fruit laced with cold tea and white pepper, yet it pulls up rather short on the finish and leaves you wanting more. Tasted February 2017.
