2009 was the first vintage of this very long-term project. Only pure limestone. 50:50 Cabernet Franc and Merlot some from Fronsac vineyards (partly Canon Fronsac) and some Bordeaux Supérieur vineyards. Bright crimson. Much sweeter on the nose than the Ch Grand Village 2010 (same owners). Gamey, sweet. Perhaps a little animal? More than a hint of Pomerol – and alcohol on the end. (JR)

The second year of production for this special selection from the family who produce Ch Lafleur from their home farm near Fronsac. Jacques Guinaudeau thinks it needs 20 years to show itself. 44% Cabernet Franc. 'It's an experiment not thinking of price, trying to prove that Cabernet Franc can be great even not on the Pomerol plateau. The problem is that when it’s young it has less colour and alcohol and tannin. It needs age to show its paces. The Cabernet Franc clonal selection was bad – worse than Merlots.' They use some very small plots at Lafleur but mainly the Ch Grand Village fruit from Mouillac where they have planted good Cabernet Franc clones – better than the Cabernet Franc planted at Lafleur. Not exactly modern but quite rich. Spicy and lively but still very youthful. (JR)
Another 1,000-case cuvee from the owners of Chateau Lafleur in Pomerol, this is a seductive, round, generous wine with notes of kirsch liqueur intermixed with lavender and hints of anise and spice box. Fruity and seriously endowed, this is a pretty wine to drink over the next 5-6 years. Drink: 2013 - 2019. Wine Advocate #205 Feb 2013
