This wine seemed as if extraction had been pushed to the limit, resulting in a wine with far too many tannins for the more delicately composed fruit element. There is nice earth, cedar, spice, and red and black currants, but the tannins slap the taster across the face in a none-too-pleasant manner. This may be the kind of wine we’ll get a better view of in another year. (Tasted two times.)
Odd, sweet, sugary nose. But solid and flatteringly creamy-textured. Crunchy fruit on the finish. Very round and supple. Just off dry. (JR)
Blueberry and flowers, with hints of sweet tobacco on the nose. Full-bodied, with polished and silky tannins and a long, juicy finish. Best ever from here
About the producer
Neighbouring Haut-Brion and Pape Clément, this estate has been turned around since Paulin Calvet took over in 2007. Working with the legendary late Denis Dubourdieu and Valérie Lavigne, results have been impressive.
