Score 80/100 · Drink 2021, Neal Martin, Sep 2021

I have had two or three bottles of the 1960 La Mission Haut-Brion over the years since it was sold for pennies on a wine list in London. Frankly, it is a rather dilapidated Pessac-Léognan thanks to that year's cold and sunless summer. The muffled, earthy nose shows barely any fruit, and the palate is a little acetic on the entry and handicapped by its hollow middle. There is some redemption on the light cedar finish, but bottles need to be consumed yesterday. Tasted from my personal cellar.

Very bright crimson. Sweet and toasted nose and then a bit tough on the palate – austere. (JR)
