Tasting notes
Bit of blackcurrant leaf, some well-judged oak. Pretty simple finish and light palate though. Easygoing, inoffensive. (RH)

Tua Rita's 2012 Rosso di Notri is a standout. Dark red cherry and plum notes meld into licorice, tobacco and smoke in a wine of power and length. Readers looking for a drop-dead gorgeous, delicious Maremma wine that won't break the bank should check out the Rosso. In 2012, Rosso di Notri is 50% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah.
The 2012 Rosso dei Notri (a 50-50 blend of Sangiovese with international varieties including Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet) is aged three months in both barrique and botte. It offers a vibrant and lively bouquet with highlights of wild berry, spice and dried tobacco. In the mouth, however, is feels appropriately compact and fresh. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2017. Stefano Frascolla and Tua Rita have almost single-handedly put Suvereto on Italy’s winemaking map. His latest releases are nothing short of spectacular. Importer: Winebow Inc.; www.winebow.com
