Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The 2011 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos has an initially quite simple bouquet, but one that gains complexity with salted caramel, almond and smoke scents, well defined and gaining vigor with aeration. The palate is crisp and focused on the entry with a fine line of acidity and minerality, although it feels quite austere toward the razor-sharp finish. This is another Dauvissat wine that has completely closed down now, and I expect my parsimonious score will be made to look foolish down the line.

The 2011 Chablis Les Clos is especially massive in this vintage. Rich, voluptuous and enveloping, the 2011 wraps around the palate with a crescendo of aromas and flavors supported by equally imposing structure. The style is quite powerful. It will be interesting to see if more Clos finesse develops over time.

Pale yellow. Bracing aromas of lemon, ginger, chalk and spices. At once dense and penetrating, with outstanding citric cut to the complex, slightly high-toned flavors of lemon zest, white pepper, minerals and subtle resiny spices. Here, too, the wine's intense chalky character gives it an impression of stronger acidity than the numbers would suggest. Boasts terrific fruit intensity, and the wonderfully precise finish goes on and on. A great showing today, and one of the superstars of the vintage.

Dauvissat's 2011 Chablis Les Clos is hauntingly beautiful. It shows gorgeous precision in its aromas and flavors, with all the elements in the right place. A rich tapestry of green pears, flowers, spices and crushed rocks caresses the palate. The integration of fruit, acidity and minerality is seamless. In other words, this is textbook Clos.
