Score 91/100 · Drink 2005-2015, Pierre Rovani, Apr 2003

Aromatically demure, the 2000 Chablis Les Clos reveals hints of flinty scents. Lovers of great Chablis will have to be patient with this wine as it is typically (for Les Clos) restrained in its youth. Its deep, concentrated personality displays great concentration, richness, and length. With aeration, notes of crystalline minerals, quartz, earth, resiny minerals, and crisp pears come to the fore. Projected maturity: 2005-2015. Importer: Clicquot, Inc., New York, NY; tel. (212) 888-7575

Again, this wine has a massive impact on the palate (even if the nose is still distinctly furled). It's very, very tight and set for the long term. Essence of green fruits. Reserved but not austere. (JR)

As was the 2001, this is somewhat oakier than the other grands crus and this will appeal more to those who enjoy more than a trace of wood in their Chablis. This is a huge wine, indeed even massive and this could easily be mistaken for a fine Chevalier. At the moment, this lacks the same finesse and precision as I find that the wood blurs somewhat the delineation that the best of this range deliver. To be sure, this is a very fine effort but I would prefer a bit less oak influence as it rounds off the flavors and slightly mutes the minerality. that said, the impressive sap, acid balance and sheer depth of material should permit this to enjoy a very long life.
