Score 85/100 · Drink 2016-2021, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2016

Tasted at the de Myrat vertical at the property. The 2003 Château de Myrat has quite a deep golden color. The nose is satisfactory with dried honey and barley sugar scents, simple but with living on the final reserves of vigor. The palate is similar to the 2002 in that it is much better than the nose: smooth and viscous with honeyed fruit laced with clementine and quince, the finish perhaps the best that the estate had produced thus far. Again, if the aromatics were better, this would deserve a higher score. Tasted April 2016.

Bright yellow-gold. Exotic aromas of roasted apricot, toffee and smoky oak. Fat and forward, with an almost confectionery sweetness to its exotic flavors of apricot, toffee and marzipan. Just this side of cloying and in need of a bit more life and spine, but will give early pleasure. Very 2003 in style.

Medium yellow. Pineapple and licorice on the nose, with a whiff of bug spray. Then sweet, supple and clean in the mouth, with strongflavors of pineapple, ginger and honey. Not particularly nuanced but offers goodtexture and strong fruit. Slightly phenolic on the back end, with a hint of toffee.

Mid gold. Rich and tangy – notable acidity but lots of botrytis too. Exciting. Creamy-textured with no shortage of sweetness but an attractively refreshing dry finish too. This is not the sweetest but is very well balanced and sophisticated with a certain nutty depth. (JR)
