Score 90/100 · Drink 2025-2038, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Sep 2024

Dark brambled berry fruits, medium intensity, grilled almonds on the opening beats, oak influence still evident and it swamps the initially appealing ripe fruit. Luscious texture, with rosemary and pulses of bitter cocoa bean and espresso. Starts off well, but is swamped by the end and struggles to find balance. Harvest 24 September to 15 October, Jacques Boissenot consultant.

Bright, full ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry, chocolate, cedar and violet. Sweet and rich but tight, with sound acidity accenting the wine's spicy intensity and extending its dark fruit flavors. A distinctly rich style of Margaux with a long, perfumed finish.

Still quite blue. Rather odd nose – something like hemp. Was there some unusual oak here? Then very sweet and just a tad simple on the palate. It is certainly not short of tannin! But there is just a slight hole in the middle. Fades a bit fast. (JR)

There is nothing wrong with this wine, but it is relatively shallow, one-dimensional, and monolithic for a 2009. It possesses round tannins as well as plum, red and black currant fruit, but there is nothing distinctive about this Margaux. (Tasted once.)
