Score 87-89/100 · Robert Parker, Feb 1999
The 1997 St.-Joseph Le Grand Pompee is superior. After a maceration period that lasted over a month, this offering reveals an opaque ruby/purple color, and rich, chocolatey, smoky, blackberry flavors that suggest the super-ripeness the Jaboulets achieved in this vintage. The wine possesses excellent, nearly outstanding concentration, plenty of structure and tannin, and a sweet mid-palate and length. An excellent, nearly outstanding St.-Joseph Le Grand Pompee, it is among the finest ever made at this estate. Importer: Frederick Wildman, New York, NY; tel. (212) 355-0700
