Medium-bodied, with little concentration is the 1998 Barolo Marcenasco Rocche. I may have caught it during a less expressive stage, but it appeared straightforward with little volume and depth. Consumption during its first 8-10 years of life is recommended. Importer: Paterno Imports, Lake Bluff, IL; tel. (847) 604-89000

Good deep red-ruby. Deeply pitched aromas of plum, toffee, mocha, roast coffee, meat and smoky oak. Thick, fat, sweet and deep; shows a larger structure than the Marcenasco and a minerally component. The strong but rather fine tannins hit the palate later, and are more thoroughly buffered by the wine extract.
