Score 94/100 · Drink 2016-2026, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Sep 2016
The 2001 Pàtrimo is one of the best wines in this vertical. This vintage shows an excellent sense of focus and definition that you don't get in the two vintages that precede it. The bouquet is brooding and dark for sure with savory tones of dark fruit, prune, toasted espresso bean and dark leather. A big snow storm in April of this year caused some damage to the buds and the fruit yields were greatly reduced as a result. But the summer was hot and long. This year also saw lots of replanting in the Pàtrimo vineyard and a new-pruned spur cordon training system was implemented. The wine is very expressive and deeply layered with good integration and soft tannins. This wine should hold for the next ten years.
