Tasting notes
The 2005 Syrah Moritz Vineyard was sourced from “only” 30-year-old vines. It offers floral notes, cassis, bacon, smoked meat, and blueberry compote. Opulent and sweet with gobs of flavor, it should have a 20 year lifespan. Importer: E. & J. Gallo Winery, Modesto, CA; www.clarendonhills.com.au

Deep violet. Smoky dark berry and kirsch aromas display impressive depth and power, with an overlay of sexy oak spice. Fat, palate-coating dark fruit flavors are supported by gentle acidity, gaining a suave cocoa quality on the finish. Soft tannins add shape to the sweet, jammy finish. This is pretty seductive today.
