Score 91/100 · Drink 2012-2020, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2012

The 2006 Finca Mirador has fine delineation on the nose with subtle milk chocolate notes in the background. The palate is crisp and supple on the entry with a taut entry, the texture smooth an inviting with hints of dark chocolate and mint towards the composed finish. This is very fine and should continue to give pleasure over several years. Drink now-2020. Importer: TGIC Imports, Woodland Hills, CA; tel. (818) 225-5100; and Corney & Barrow (UK)

Deep ruby. Blackberry, mocha, tobacco and a musky gamey note on the nose; smells sweeter today than the Finca Altamira. Then suppler, sweeter and wilder on the palate, with a more pliant, feminine texture than the comparatively brooding Altamira. But this very expressive wine also boasts excellent sappy acidity, and conveys an almost peppery impression of extract. Finishes chewy and very long. From a yield of 14 h/h. (A second bottle, which I rated 91+, was more reduced and primary, with a distinct crushed fruit and violet character, and was showing more obvious acidity to go with its suave tannins.)

100% Malbec; aged in French oak for 14 months Very dense crimson. Rich and quite tawny on nose. Zesty. Sweet but lifted. Polished layers. Still pretty chewy, but all in the right place. Very well done! (JR)

100% Malbec from Medrano; aged for 13 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Fresh spring blossom combined with wild fresh berry fruit. Highly aromatic. Juicy and soft and velvety. Complex, lightly spiced with some savoury flavours and also just a hint of violets. Just the right amount of grip and freshness and excellent length. Even though it’s so complex, there’s a lightness of touch that shines through. Very, very good. (JH)
