Score 88-91/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2011
Good full red. High-toned red fruits on the nose. Silky, suave and spicy; rich, broad and very ripe. The smoky oak component is less apparent in the mouth, but this is very ripe. Liger-Belair notes that his vines are planted on soil rich in orange-brown clay at the top of the vineyard and yield a generous style of wine, while the Meo-Camuzet holding is on calcaire lower down on the hillside and produces a more taut, minerally style. Today I prefer the 2008 version of the Liger-Belair example.
