The 2010 Baron de Brane has a very detailed bouquet with pure blackberry, briary, crushed stone and subtle tobacco aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with just a little chewiness to contend with on the entry. Mainly red fruit, lightly spiced and quite minty, I find the finish attractive but perhaps just missing the intellect of the finest wines in the flight.

Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Baron de Brane gives up cassis, tobacco, leather and spices on the nose, with a baked plums undercurrent. Medium to full-bodied, it has a chewy texture and plenty of freshness, finishing a little clipped and rustic.

Tasted blind. Smudgy garnet. Ripe and spicy black fruit. A bit tarry but lifted too. Moreish freshness even though, perhaps because, the tannins finish dry (not drying). (JH)

The 2010 Baron de Brane has more detail and clarity on the nose compared to the 2009, displaying black fruit, gravel and cedar aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, more fruit concentration than the 2009 and a poised, savory, slightly meaty finish. This is a fine Deuxième Vin. Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château .
