The 2005 Château Chauvin is a classic, satisfying effort. Ripe red and black fruits, tobacco, smoked herbs, leather, and a kiss of rocky minerality all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, elegant, and balanced. It's not the most complex or powerful in the vintage, yet it brings classic Saint-Emilion goodness and is clearly in the prime of its drinking window.

The 2005 Chauvin is a potent, heavy wine. The oaky, extracted approach prevails here, totally covering the fruit. There is plenty of concentration, but there is too much wood tannin to make this truly pleasurable.

This fruit-driven, full-bodied, opulent St.-Emilion from Madame Ondet has a dense ruby/purple color, plenty of fruit and body, and rich black and red fruits. Drink it over the next decade.
