Score 87/100 · Drink 2014-2017, Robert Parker, Aug 2014

This property was purchased in 2014 by Sylvie Cazes of Chateau Lynch Bages (also the sister of Jean-Michel Cazes). The fully mature 2003 Chauvin exhibits a dark plum color in addition to copious fig and plum notes, and what many would think is the over-ripeness and sur-maturite of 2003, low acids. However, the wine is still intact and medium-bodied with lots of dark, foresty, plummy fruits. Drink it over the next several years.

Very deep purple. Sweet fruit plus woodshavings, predictably, on the nose. Heady unctuous sweet cocktail, Very supple and round but with painful notes of acidity underneath. Cuts off very suddenly even if it is overall mire successful than many other 'modern' wines in this selection. Just too painful for pleasure overall. Dramatic, certainly... (JR)

Pleasant blackberry and licorice character with medium body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Nice mouthfeel, if a bit hollow. Almost 89-91.-James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2004
