The 2006 Barolo Bussia is one of the finest Barolos I have tasted from Prunotto in a long time. This shows superb richness and depth in a powerful, seductive style that captures the essence of Bussia, one of Piedmont's top sites. The rich, textured dark fruit flows through effortlessly to the round, sensual finish. It's great to see this historic house making wines of this level once again.

Monforte d'Alba. Deep-centred ruby with broad garnet rim. Very sexy, almost nutty notes. Initial rich, sweet fruit impression swiftly followed by drying tannin. Finish shows good concentration and length without being multilayered at this stage. (WS)

Medium red. Reticent aromas of currant, cherry, red rose and tobacco. Richer, bigger and sweeter than the normale but less open initially. Aeration reveals a wine with superb stuffing and depth, and more of all the key components, including sheer material to buffer its tannins. Finishes sweet and long, with wonderfully suave tannins and lingering perfume.
