Tasting notes
The 1997 Maestro Raro (400 cases of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon) is still unformed. A ripe, plum/purple color is accompanied by straightforward cassis fruit, toasty oak, and a rich, chewy, but monolithic personality. It needs more time to firm up and reveal its complexity and delineation. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2014. Importer: Dominic Nocerino, Vinifera Imports, Ronkonkoma, NY; tel. (516) 467-5907

Deep blackish color, with a touch of garnet at the edge. Blackcurrants and blackberries on the nose, along with a slight and controlled herbaceousness. Brooding and backward on the palate, with classic cabernet blackcurrant fruit and herbs. Dense, long and perceptibly tannic. An authoritative but uncompromising wine that demands cellaring.
