The entry-level 2006 Is Solinas is 95% Carignano and 5% Bovale Sardo from the Sulcis region. Expansive and generous, the wine possesses striking richness and density in its ripe dark fruit, sweet herbs and mint, with a long refined finish. This medium to full-bodied wine will offer superb drinking over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2011. This line-up from Argiolas is remarkable for so many reasons, but let me just list two; the wines are reference-point bottles that capture the magic of Sardinia’s indigenous grapes; and the wines remain exceedingly fairly priced considering the quality of the juice.
