Tasting notes
The 100% Merlot 1999 L’Apparita, rather surprisingly, is not one of the better vintages for the estate, despite the clear quality of the Sangiovese in 1999. The aromas are ripe, but not particularly complex, the flavors supple but without the explosive power of vintages such as 1992 and 1998. Drink: 2005-2012. Note: at press time, Castello di Ama was in the process of changing their American importer.

About the producer

Castello di Ama is one of the pre-eminent estates in Chianti Classico. Situated in the southern-most district of the appellation, the estate has only been making wine since the late 1970s but has since built a reputation as one of the region’s best.
