Slightly charred-fruit character rather than oak char and a mushroom note and rubber. Fresh and juicy on the palate but finishes hard and bitter. (JH)

The 2011 Faugeres is a very strong effort, which is not surprising given the profound quality of Peby Faugeres. This bigger cuvee exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as lots of sweet black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with hints of licorice and incense. Full, rich and layered, this up-front, gorgeous 2011 should drink well for 12+ years. It is a sleeper of the vintage.

Deep bright cherry red. Violets and dark red fruit. Just a touch dusty. Fresh, chewy and generous. The tannins finish a little dry but the finish is lively. (JH)
