The 2004 Vosne-Romanée Clos des Réas 1er Cru has a very ephemeral nose, not green per se , but lacking in scents of anything, to be brutally honest. The palate is medium-bodied and is actually better than the nose, offering balsamic-tinged red fruit, sharp acidity and an agreeable if short, spicy finish. It fades a little dramatically in the glass, but the palate just about rescues this Clos des Réas. Tasted at Sarah Marsh’s 2003/2004 tasting in London.

Bright, vibrant mid ruby. Light but energetic nose. Clean palate entry with real composure. Lovely balance and completeness. Fruit has impact and charm with a few layers. Hint of orange peel. Real grip, and this wine certainly seems to have a future. (JR)
