Tasting notes
This perennial underachiever performed well above my expectations, and I am prepared to say this is the best Olivier I have ever tasted. Dense ruby/purple, with sweet, unsmoked cigar tobacco intermixed with graphite, black currants, cherries, and spice, it is medium to full-bodied, fleshy, beautifully textured, and long. It should drink well for 20 or more years.

Tasted at the Pessac UGC. This is very tight and unyielding on the nose: thick black cherry, raspberry and a touch of iodine. The tannins are a little brutish at the moment with a vice-like grip on the palate, a little dry though with good weight. Rather introspective at the moment and short on the finish.
A wine with plum and berry character and hints of spice and earth. Full body, with soft and velvety tannins and a juicy finish. Try in 2015.
Dense purple red, summery black berry fruits with fine autumnal ripeness, quite broad, nicely concentrated palate, good fragrance, personality, depth and length.
About the producer

Ch. Olivier is one of the few actual castles in Bordeaux – coming with a moat and drawbridge. Since Alexandre de Bethmann took over here in 2012, the château has been given a new lease of life, with quality on the rise.
