Tasting notes
The 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Damodes offers a complex nose of black cherry, soy, violets, and charred meat. Rich black fruit and inner-mouth florality combine with an underlying wet stone character on the palate. Chewy tannins in the finish do not block the abundance of fruit nor this wine’s deep meatiness. It comes from two superbly-situated parcels, one cattycorner to Les Malconsorts and the other just above La Richemone. Allowing for its having been in bottle for only two weeks, and according to Potel suffering on that account, this bids fair to be a superb, ageworthy Pinot. Medium red. Cherry and rose petal on the nose. Juicy, spicy and pure, with enticing inner-mouth aromatic character and a minerally elegance. Youthfully taut, but this boasts excellent precision and finishes with fine tannins.
