Tasting notes
Consistently one of the finest Nuits made, Jayer's large scaled, dark-colored Nuits-St.-Georges Les Damodes exhibits deep, floral, sweet, red berry fruit aromatics and flavors in its explosive personality that is also crammed with highly extracted red fruit flavors. Viscous and full-bodied, it will repay 6 years of cellaring by providing superb drinking for up to a decade. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. The wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Pinot Noir, a fragile varietal, reacts poorly to fining, filtration, and careless bottling techniques, I recommend caution when considering buying a red burgundy based on cask samples. I called it as I tasted it, and hope the bottled wine reflects the quality of the samples I was provided. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083.

Deep red-ruby. Perfumed black cherry, redcurrant and spicy oak aromas. Very bright and spicy in the mouth; juicy and firm. Conveys a sappy sweetness but finishes with excellent cut. Superb back end features palate-staining cherry and dark berry flavor and very fine tannins.
