Tasting notes
The 1999 Barolo Brunate remains one of the most backward, closed wines of the year. Still hiding behind a wall of impenetrable tannin, the 1999 will challenge readers to continue to be patient. Dark plums, black cherries, menthol, tar and licorice explode from the glass, but the 1999 still needs time, and likely lots of it. Nevertheless, the pure aristocratic beauty of this site comes through in spades.

The very expressive, classic nose offers notes of flowers, spices, and minerals. This is a wine of notable intensity and structure with great length and freshness on the finish. Everything is in proportion here. This 1999 is terrific, gradually opening to show layers and layers of flavor as only the best wines can.
The 1999 Barolo Brunate is somewhat rustic on the nose with much saddle leather and game in the aromatic gamut, ample but a bit rough in its tannins and tough in its texture. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2016. Importer: Empson, USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. (703) 684-0900
