Thanks to heavy chilling, this tastes sufficiently refreshing but I would imagine it could be pretty heavy. Not that distinctive. (JR)

The 2009 Il Pino di Biserno already shows promising signs of a happy evolution. A blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, the wine is redolent of dried tobacco, black currant and rain-soaked earth. It delivers balanced power and concentration that drive a long, rich finish. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. Tenuta di Biserno is the pride and joy of Lodovico Antinori, a man with a gifted talent for selecting the best sites for growing vines along the rugged coast of Tuscany. After selling Tenuta dell’Ornellaia years ago, Lodovico invested much of his energy and passion here. Importer: Wade & Clark Wine Imports; www.wadeclarkwine.com

The 2009 Il Pino di Biserno is a gorgeous wine. Finessed, silky tannins support a core of dark red fruit, mocha, spices, licorice and sweet herbs. All of the elements are beautifully balanced in this harmonious, sleek red. The 2009 is a mid-weight wine that doesn't look to be built for the very long haul, but it is quite pretty today. The 2009 Pino di Biserno is 45% Cabernet Franc, 25% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot.
