A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc, the 2011 Château Pédesclaux offers a vibrant ruby color as well as a pretty, concentrated, elegant style. Cassis, black raspberries, flowers, and a hint of tobacco all emerge from this impressive 2011 that’s a fair click better than the 2010 and goes a long way toward showing the improvements that have been made at this estate.

The 2011 Pedesclaux has a touch of sur-maturité on the nose, fresh prune mixed with the black fruit, as if it is trying a little too hard after the 2010. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet and candied entry, supple ripe tannin with noticeable acidity that just seems a little shrill towards the finish. Not bad, though I find more sophistication in the 2010 Pedesclaux. Tasted March 2016.
Tasted blind. Cool and fresh. Not that much fruit or charm. A bit austere and lacking flesh. (JR)
Unusually dark purplish crimson. Very introvert. There is extract here but not much aroma. Substance and mouth-drying tannins on the end plus acidity but not really much weight in the middle. Difficult to see this really giving much pleasure. Almost bitter on the finish. (JR)
