Ruby red colour, tobacco, redcurrant, grilled raspberry, touches of cassis bud and stalky tannins. This was the year that Jacky Lorenzetti bought the property, so still very much in its old school phase, and even in a vintage as impressive as 2009 it is already showing tertiary character. So much was being put into motion at the estate at this point, but I would still favour more recent vintages of Pédéslcaux.

Drinking nicely today, the 2009 Château Pédesclaux has some classic Pauillac lead pencil and graphite notes as well as medium-bodied richness, plenty of tobacco and cedar nuances, ripe tannins, and a good finish. It's gaining elegance as it ages and has lots to love. It should continue to evolve for another decade.

The 2009 Pedesclaux has an intense boysenberry jam and dark cherry fruit, almost Napa in style, nicely defined if not the most complex you will find on the Left Bank. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, blackberry and cassis fruit laced with cedar and sandalwood, a little dryness on the finish so that I would drink this over the next 5-6 years. Tasted March 2016.
