Tasting notes
The 1995 Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra offers a knock-out nose of tobacco, mint, dried red fruits, balsam wood, and cherry liqueur. There are tons of glycerin, low acidity, medium to full body, and striking richness and lushness. It is about as sexy a 1995 Barolo as readers will find. I would opt for drinking it over the next decade as it is already irresistible. One of the most gifted winemakers in Piedmont, Domenico Clerico has fashioned this riveting wine from the vineyards surrounding the village of Monforte d'Alba. Clerico utilizes rotary fermenters, and new oak. This a wine of extraordinary richness, amazing aromatics, and a sensual personality that satiates both the hedonistic and intellectual senses. 1995 Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra—The 1995 Ciabot Mentin Ginestra offers an aromatic nose and suggestions of macerated cherries, spices and vanilla with good sweetness and length in the somewhat lean style of the vintage. Though not as opulent as the wines of more important vintages, the 1995 is a great choice for drinking today and over the next five to ten years. Antonio Galloni, In the Cellar # G6 Jan 2006

Medium red. Cherry, plum, smoke and brown spices on the nose, plus hints of tobacco and earth. Fat and stuffed with fruit; like velvet in the mouth. Finishes with very suave, fine tannins and just enough grip. Completely avoids the dry side of this vintage. An impeccably balanced wine that's likely to provide early pleasure but improve with time in bottle.
