Full red-ruby. Roasted red fruits, licorice and damp earth on the nose; distinct surmuri aspect. Fatter and sweeter than the Deree, with exotic, densely packed flavors of candied raspberry and violet. Hugely tannic on the back but long and supple.

I adored the talcum powder-dusted, floral, black cherry and blackberry aromas of the medium to full-bodied 2003 Gevrey-Chambertin Champeaux. An ample, expansive, and rich wine, its wonderfully ripe character is redolent of red and black cherries intermingled with notes of chocolate. Bright red-ruby. Pungent aromas of crushed berries, violet, minerals and flowers. Sweet, densely packed and bright; the most aromatic and vibrant 2003 to this point. A portion of these vines are planted north to south, which gave them some protection against the relentless summer sun. Floral and minty nuances add verve. Finishes with firm but fine tannins. Offers terrific potential.

This estate, today with Arnaud Mortet at the helm, makes some of Gevrey-Chambertin’s finest wines. Working with 16 hectares, as well as a few négociant parcels, this property makes perfumed and chiselled Pinot Noir.
