1992 Sassicaia

Tasting notes
The 1992 Sassicaia is another member of that restricted group of lesser vintages that delivers surprising results today. I am delighted to find a few of these exceptional surprises in this historic retrospective of Sassicaia. None of these wines, including this vintage, had previously been reviewed by Robert Parker Wine Advocate. This effort from 1992 plays its strongest cards in the mouth. The bouquet is rather muted and predictable with a solid offering of tertiary licorice, tar and dark fruit aromas. But in the mouth, this wine exhibits impressive finesse and a menthol and balsam-herb finish that lasts for many long minutes. Those silky sensations go on and on. This wine is a risk worth taking.

Mid crimson with a pale rim. Quite a lot of evolution. Some sweetness, but very, very light on the nose. Masses of acidity. 'Elegant'. Still some tannin. Hollow in the middle. (JR)
