Tasting notes
Made by Steve Smith MW. 100% Syrah. Yields 62 hl/ha. 100% destemmed, fermented in combination open-top oak cuves and stainless-steel tanks with innoculated yeasts. 18 months in French oak barriques of which 35% new. No fining. Filtration. Bottled February 2013. pH 3.68, TA 5.5 g/l, RS 0 g/l. Sweet start and mainstream (no funk here). Still quite demandingly astringent on the finish but with pure flavours – definitively bright and a little brash. (JR)

Medium garnet-purple-colored, the 100% Syrah 2011 Le Sol opens with warm blackberry, kirsch and mulberry aromas fused with hints of spice box, violets and chocolate, plus a whiff of pepper. Medium-bodied and offering great finesse and poise in the mouth, it has a medium level of rounded tannins, lively yet well-balanced acidity and finishes with great length. Drink it now to 2020+.
