2002 Chapelle Chambertin

Produced from 85 year old vines, Jadot’s 2002 Chapelle-Chambertin is the finest example of this vineyard I’ve ever put to my lips. Its awesome aromatics reveal coconut, vanilla, super-ripe blackberries, licorice, and cherries. On the palate, this stunning wine is extraordinarily expansive, conquering the taster with wave after wave of viscous (yet fresh and juicy) black fruits. Good bright ruby-red. High-toned roasted fruits, licorice, violet and sweet oak on the nose. Sweet, supple and creamy, with fruit currently dominated by an exotic coconutty oak quality. A second barrel showed even riper aromas and superb richness.

Noticeable wood spice frames pretty and pure earthy red fruit that highlights the rich, sappy and elegant medium weight flavors that deliver fine length. This is quite elegant yet altogether serious and blessed with plenty of old vine sap and enough structure to suggest that this will benefit from the better part of a decade in bottle.
